Rehab Experience Inspires Poem in Honor of Staff

Sometimes, a few words can make a big impact.

Recently, St. John’s Rehabilitation guest Lois I. and her husband Howard S. D. put their appreciation for the staff who helped make their stay a positive experience.

Their poem highlights the many people who play a role in recovery — from the nurses and CNAs who provide daily care to the physical and occupational therapy teams who help guests regain strength, confidence, and independence.

Here is their poem:

To all the talented nurses
Who endure some for the curses
And look out for all the people and even their purses

To the CNAs who often save the day
Each in their own special way
What more can one say

For the staff in PT
This is so important for Lois and me
So she can go home and be free

For the staff in OT
You teach what needs to be
That is something to see

To all the people who clean
For all the people who cook/serve
For my “friend” in fourth-floor reception

To the ladies in recreation
Even though being here is no vacation
You are good at your vocation

For Lois, the work of the rehabilitation team has a very personal meaning.  They helped her get back home to the life she and Howard now enjoy at Brickstone by St. John’s.

The poem also recognizes the staff members who keep the community running behind the scenes, including those who clean, prepare and serve meals, greet people at reception, and create opportunities for recreation and connection.

While a rehab stay may not be anyone’s idea of a vacation, Lois and Howard’s words are a reminder that the people who care for rehab guests and long-term residents can make a meaningful difference along the way.
