Nazareth Students Volunteer at St. John’s Respite

News 8 WROC recently highlighted the volunteer work of local college students at St. John’s Dementia Caregiver Respite Program.

Continuing the 15-year partnership, St. John’s Home welcomed a group of Nazareth University gerontology students to help out at St. John’s Dementia Caregiver Program. The group was led by Sarah Daddona, a student in the gerontology program and who previously lived at St. John’s Meadows as part of her studies.

Dr. David Steitz, chair of the Nazareth University Gerontology Program, told News 8 that when students are exposed to real-life situations like with the programs provided through the partnership, “they learn about what is going on in our community and it starts to open up a whole bunch of career paths and new ideas.”

While gaining real-life experiences outside of the classroom, students can spend quality time with older adults, bringing joy to all involved.
