Valentine’s Celebration Has Residents Feeling the Love

St. John’s Home staged a beautiful Valentine’s celebration this week, headlined by a resident-favorite: singer Josh Shapiro.
The “Sweethearts Social” drew residents, guests, volunteers, and St. John’s staff to the Community Center for a lively celebration of love leading up to the Valentine’s Day holiday.
“Every day is a cause to celebrate. Josh, being one of their favorites, sings a lot of songs they know, a lot of songs with energy,” St. John’s Home Director of Recreation John Eilers-Lloyd told 13WHAM. “Some of our residents even have posters of Josh Shapiro, autographed posters in their rooms. They just adore him.”
“He’s fantastic, I love his music,” resident Sandy Cromey told WROC about Shapiro.

Several local news stations captured the spirit of this fun event, which featured Shapiro serenading audience members as well as singing alongside residents caught up in the moment.
Beyond the entertainment, events like the Sweetheart Social support emotional well-being by promoting positivity, social engagement, and a sense of belonging. “That’s why we’re really here day to day, to give them (residents) the highest quality of life,” added Eilers-Lloyd. “Make them feel like they are important, loved, that they feel purposeful. They still have a lot to give.”
