St. John’s Home Welcomes Fall

St. John’s Home Residents and family members welcomed autumn with a couple of events to celebrate the flavors, sights, and changes that come with the season.

Residents as trees and Sarah Culp as a bear

The first fall celebration took place on September 22, the Fall Equinox. The St. John’s Spiritual Care Team brought vibrant music and storytelling to this interactive event. Similar to the Summer Solstice program held in June, residents and employees took on roles in the “Story of Fall.” The story included residents as trees transitioning from summer to fall, mice, and a bear preparing for winter’s hibernation. The bear, played by Director of Spiritual Care Sarah Culp, welcomed the season by enjoying the autumnal harvest and dancing among the changing trees.

Following the skit, residents in the audience sang along to songs about change and the harvest. They also had the chance to view the sunflowers they planted at the summer celebration.

When asked about their favorite things in fall, residents shouted “football,” food,” “the colors,” and “sunsets.”

A few days later, St. John’s Home welcomed musician Steve West for a fall concert organized by the St. John’s Therapeutic Recreation Department. Residents and family members enjoyed seasonal apple cider and donuts, accompanied by live music.
