Seamless Transitions from Home to Senior Living

“For many families, conversations around senior living come with mixed emotions like guilt, grief, fear, as well as excitement and relief.”

St. John’s Meadows Community Representative Manager Stephanie Krebbeks and her team are tasked with supporting new St. John’s independent and assisted living residents through the move-in process. Krebbeks has been working with prospective St. John’s Meadows residents and their families since before the buildings opened in 1998. She recently shared her expertise from nearly three decades at St. John’s with the Rochester Business Journal.

“Ultimately, people want to be heard and supported, not rushed into decisions,” Krebbeks wrote her July 8 column. “They also want to know what a ‘seamless’ transition ideally looks like.”

Krebbeks and her team are experts at making new residents feel comfortable with their decision to make a move by laying out the options that best fit their lifestyles.  “One of the most common misconceptions is that senior living is only for the very old or considered to be a last resort option,” says Krebbeks, who also guides residents through a similar move-in process at Brickstone by St. John’s.  “Providing education about the included services and amenities, transparency in pricing, the opportunity to meet current residents, and sample the community’s activities, can go a long way in easing these concerns. It is important to demonstrate to people that moving into senior living is a welcomed choice by many and not ‘just a necessity.’”
