A St. John’s holiday tradition spanning over a decade was documented by several local news channels earlier this week.

Staff from St. John’s independent living communities once again delivered a warm lunch and cookie trays to first responders located across the Town of Brighton.

St. John’s Meadows and Brickstone by St. John’s staff made stops at Brighton Volunteer Ambulance, Brighton Fire Department, and the Brighton Police Department, thanking each team along the way for helping keep residents and staff safe and secure throughout the year.

“It’s nice to know we’re appreciated,” Brighton Fire Deputy Chief Ted Aroesty told News 10NBC. “It means a lot to the guys.”

Deputy Chief Aroesty explained to WROC-TV that it is nice to engage with St. John’s staff when it is not an urgent situation.  “We see them throughout the year under stressful situations, whether it’s a medical call or a fire alarm. It’s nice to see them in a casual setting when there’s not an emergency,” he said.

“They support our residents, they take care of us,” St. John’s Vice President of Senior Housing Tony Zaccaglino told 13WHAM News when asked why this holiday tradition of thanking first responders has endured.
