St. John’s Resident is Beneficiary of Touching Hearts’ Adopt a Senior Project

Rochester, N.Y. — St. John’s Home resident Helen T. has been selected by the local companion care agency Touching Hearts to be this year’s beneficiary of its annual “Adopt a Senior” Project.

Touching Hearts has been sponsoring a senior at a local nursing home during the holidays for the past 7 years and selects a resident-in-need from a different home each year.

Staff members from St. John’s Home worked with Touching Hearts to select this year’s resident in need. Helen T. has limited contact with her own family and is an avid lover of the music of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Candy, jewelry, and a warm sweater were also on Helen’s desired gift list this year.

According to Touching Hearts Community Relations Manager Annette Ziegler, they learn about the resident, what they enjoy and buy special gifts to brighten their day.

“This is such a wonderful opportunity for Helen due to her limited family connections,” says Stacey Hall, St. John’s Director of Resident Life. “This act of kindness will surely bring a smile to her face.”

Touching Hearts representatives delivered Helen her gifts in person and shared the experience with residents and staff members from her neighborhood at St. John’s Home, 150 Highland Avenue, on Tuesday, December 15 .
