St. John’s Work Partnership with Edison Tech Featured on Spectrum News

Students from NYSAA program at Edison Tech at St. John’s Meadows

A group of Rochester City School District (RCSD) students at Edison Career and Technology High School are getting hands-on experience doing on-site work at local employers. This year, St. John’s Meadows became one of a handful of work sites where these students spend their school days. And according to all involved, this partnership between St. John’s and the school district has been a big success story.

Wendy Mills from Spectrum News highlighted the program in a news story that aired the morning of May 17 across New York State. The broadcast piece shows both the impact of this program as a learning experience for students who travel to St. John’s Meadows multiple times each week as well as the natural fit of St. John’s as a work site. These RCSD student-workers are enrolled in the New York State Alternative Assessment (NYSAA), a community work-based program now in its 10th year in Rochester.

“We made a point to treat them like staff,” St. John’s Vice President of Senior Housing Tony Zaccaglino told Spectrum News. “We had badges made and bought them uniform shirts just like our staff wear.”
