What is Therapeutic Recreation?

The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification defines therapeutic recreation (T.R.) as “a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions, as a means to psychological and physical health, recovery and well-being.”

The T.R. teams at St. John’s Home, St. John’s Green House Homes, St. John’s Meadows, and Brickstone by St. John’s strive for daily, engaging activities that best benefit residents and their specific goals. Fun activities that fill the monthly calendar at each of the St. John’s campuses include live music, entertainment, craft lessons, exercise classes, and much more.
