St. John’s Column Outlines Roadmap for Successful Resident-Run Programming

Social Recreation Manager Jennifer Kelley

St. John’s Social Recreation Manager Jennifer Kelley believes that the residents she and her team serve at Brickstone by St. John’s and St. John’s Meadows are  “the greatest resource (the) senior living community has to offer” and her counsel on how best to foster and grow this resource were the subject of a recent guest column in McKnight’s Senior Living.

Fitting during February, the month nationally recognized for the work done in this field–National Recreation Therapy Month, Kelley offers fellow practitioners helpful tips by way of her coined “Three C’s” for filling a senior living community’s program calendar with resident-driven activities.

Kelly also reinforces the collaborative effort of many different departments within the community to make these ideas successful. “We all value the perspectives of the other disciplines with which we work and constantly are collaborating with volunteer services, spiritual life, dining services and various other departments throughout our community, even handing off ideas when it makes more sense for others to take the lead.”
