Seniors Learn About Online Shopping from Local Expert

St. John’s held the second virtual webinar of its three-part Technology Tuesdays Series on Tuesday, September 29 to a full online crowd of seniors hoping to learn a trick or two from local technology instructor Daniel Jones about how to make purchases from online sites like Amazon and eBay.

Jones started out the webinar with an important review from the first webinar in the Technology Tuesdays series, which focused on Internet Safety, because staying protected online is especially important when you are making purchases and exchanging credit card information with vendors over the Internet. If you did not have the opportunity to attend our first webinar, but would like to see the content you missed, we have made available for a limited time, the video recording of the webinar here.

In the second seminar, five easy steps were provided for conducting online shopping with demos and tricks along the way. Session attendees had extensive opportunity to ask specific questions they had, which centered around cookies and how web sites identify purchse history, along with using electronic payment methods such as ApplePay and PayPal.

There was certainly a great deal more that could be said about the topic than what could be covered in the 90-minute session; however, Jones pointed attendees to additional videos he created to expand upon the topic that are available to St. John’s friends for a limited time here.

Sharing this type of instruction with seniors is nothing new to instructor Daniel Jones. Jones is an independent consultant/instructor based in Rochester, NY,  who provides both private in-home one-on-one instruction, as well as small-size courses and seminars at various community centers, independent living and assisted living communities. Jones has developed computer, internet and digital technology programs for Lifespan’s Lily Café and Senior Options For Independence (SOFI) at Fairport Baptist Homes. He has also taught courses and seminars through LifespanValley ManorOasis InstituteCrimson Ridge MeadowsThe Summit at BrightonBaywinde, Eastside YMCAPerinton Community Center, and The Highlands At Pittsford.

St. John’s is pleased to have brought Jones in, not only for this webinar series, but also as an instructor for its senior residents at St. John’s Meadows and Bricktsone by St. John’s. Jones is part of a new project being launched to position senior resident technology experts as peer mentors to fellow residents in need of assistance.
