Changing Aging Article Spotlights Strategies to Cope with COVID-19

“What happens when our basic call to alleviate loneliness, helplessness, and boredom is in conflict with the even more basic call to keep people alive and well?”

This question was one that long-term care staff at St. John’s– and thousands of nursing homes across the country– have grappled with during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

An account of how members of the St. John’s team battled the additional challenges of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom while also trying to keep residents safe from infection was featured on ChangingAging, a resource that focuses on culture change throughout the long-term care industry. ChangingAging is co-founded by influential industry voice Dr. Bill Thomas. The article features insights from St. John’s staff on delivering social programming and religious services in addition to other essential supports during the pandemic.
