Illumination of Love Once Again Lights Up St. John’s

Over the past two decades, Illumination of Love has brought the St. John’s family together to ring in the holiday season.  The annual holiday lighting event is held in and around the Skalny Courtyard at St. John’s Home on the first Sunday in December.  Each individual light throughout the courtyard is available for dedication to honor or remember someone special. Funds generated through the St. John’s Foundation for Illumination of Love provide elders with special extras throughout the year. This year, $4,500.00 was raised to fund summer concerts, beauty shop visits, wheelchair repairs, and much more.

Each year, one elder living at St. John’s Home is chosen by Volunteer Services to “flip the switch” to officially light the courtyard for the season.    Jackie Swift—an elder from the Rose Neighborhood—was selected to do the honors in 2016. Jackie and her husband Peter—a resident at Brickstone by St. John’s—have been dedicated supporters of the St. John’s Foundation for years.  Additionally, Jackie serves as a representative on the St. John’s Home Resident Council and is known for helping other elders throughout the community.

It is never too early to start planning for next year’s event scheduled for Sunday, December 3, 2017.  Mark your calendars!
