Brickstone Receives EFA Award Of Merit

Brickstone by St. John’s and SWBR Architects were recently awarded the Environments for Aging Award Of Merit for the innovative architecture and new urbanism brought to Rochester by our active senior living community. 

An award ceremony was held April 9-12 at the EFA Conference in Austin, Texas to recognize the winning EFA projects. Leadership from SWBR Architects and St. John’s were present to accept the award. 

The winning projects were also profiled in EFA’s spring 2016 Design Showcase magazine:

Brickstone by St. John

The result [Brickstone by St. John’s] is a mix of independent living apartments, townhomes, and bungalows, the first phase of which opened in 2012 and the second in 2014, that’s immersed in the local landscape and was guided by the notion of “what not to do,” Gears says. “We didn’t want to have a typical senior community that felt like this was a place only for seniors. It’s a place where elders can engage with the town of Brighton and city of Rochester community, so that was the goal right from the start…”
