Social groups at St. John’s Meadows are not a new thing. From book and knitting groups to men’s clubs and tea parties, finding someone to share your interests with is not a problem.

However, Meadows resident Rae Fradkin took it a step further. Rae belongs to a social group called The Mad Hatters, a spin-off of popular The Red Hat Society. She also belongs to the Brighton Senior Center, and on Thursday, July 23, she brought all three groups together. Rae hosted the annual Mad Hatters Picnic at the Briarwood Mulipurpose Room and brought other members of the Brighton Senior Center in for an afternoon of good company and good food.

Brighton Senior Citizen Program Coordinator Emily Kelsey came along, too, to show her support for the Mad Hatters. As residents of Brighton, St. John’s Meadows and Brickstone by St. John’s residents are eligible to become members of the Brighton Senior Center. Likewise, Brighton seniors who are not residents of St. John’s are often invited to attend events like this and use the pool on a regular basis.

For more information on the Brighton Senior Center and a list of programs they offer, click here or contact Emily at 585-784-5260. St. John’s is actively strengthening the relationship between the two groups in an effort to keep all seniors engaged with their community.
