At St. John’s Home, we have made a commitment to the dining experience for our elders by making meal times as home-like as possible. This transition, part of the Eden Alternative culture change for nursing homes, is a process that gradually replaces the institutional dining model with one centered around comfort and convivium for our elders. Dining in St. John’s Green House Homes is an example of this model.
Using the St. John’s Green House Homes as the example of this model, we have completed renovations of dining rooms, creating neighborhood kitchens and changing the way we prepare and serve meals. We have repainted, refinished floors, installed new cabinets in the kitchenette areas, and improved refrigeration, freezers, and warmers for hot foods.
In time, each of our neighborhoods can have its own unique dining experience, honoring traditions and incorporating family favorites.
“Casa Del Sol,” or “House of the Sun” is what Day Break Adult Day Service participants named their new dining experience at St. John's Home. At Day Break Adult Day Service and across St. John’s, we provide the best possible choices and service with healthier food choices using local and seasonal ingredients and food that is prepared to order.
This wonderful concept gives the opportunity to share in a lunch that is prepared by a chef, in the moment, stimulating appetites with the sights and smells of a home cooked meal. We continue to embrace variety and culture with menu selections created from fresh ingredients.
