Discussions with Dan: Thank You

When addressing a group of St. John’s Home employees at the scheduled Town Hall Meetings, Dan Morphet stressed how “grateful” he is to every single “person in the building” for the work they do for the residents and fellow employees.

Morphet has been persistent in addressing employee culture since his start at St. John’s almost one year ago. The St. John’s Vice President of Skilled Services can often be seen visiting the floors and interacting with both residents and staff members. Most conversations with Morphet center around the same notion, the same motto: that “we all play a role at St. John’s.” This messaging was one that he was sure to reiterate at this quarter’s session of Town Hall Meetings. These meetings with Morphet and other members of St. John’s leadership team have been held to promote open communication and accountability.

“We have seen a major improvement in the frontline staff, in the care we give to residents,” said Morphet. “I think it is because things are starting to click for how we all work together to uplift those who provide care.”

Along with Morphet, St. John’s Director of Nursing Natasha Jackson also stressed the importance of living by St. John’s Brand Characteristics: being fun, friendly, compassionate, responsive, innovative, and respectful. “Our brand is our currency,” said Jackson. “We must live and act by these values.”

Morphet noted that compassionate and respectful care is crucial because “we are taking care of people with a history, with stories — they deserve quality care.”

He also said that compassion and respect is to be extended to fellow employees as well. “I have seen a shift already,” said Morphet. “People are saying ‘hello’ to one another more and we need to keep that going.”

Similar to other Discussions with Dan, Morphet acknowledges that employees are the “backbone of St. John’s.” At the meeting he said “Employees — no matter their position — tell where we are as an organization, where we have been, and where we are going.”
