What is a Green House® Home?

Greenhouses are a place where plants grow, live, and thrive. Green House® homes are a ranch style home for ten people to live in while receiving 24 hour care services offered in a nursing home. The building is a place where people grow, live, and thrive.

Each of St. John's community Green House® homes is home for ten elders, located in a neighborhood in the Rochester area. St. John's Green House homes are the first in the nation to be integrated into an existing residential neighborhood, not on the campus of a traditional nursing home.

Designed like a large ranch-style family home, each has a "hearth" (think: great room), a dining room, a kitchen and living room, complete with fireplace. The hearth is easily accessible from large, private bedrooms, each with a private bath. The community model has been most successful when two Green House® homes are located adjacent to each other.
