Embrace Living with Paul Hammer: 5 Interlocking Qualities

These qualities are based on five Greek words which have the same interlocking root.

  • Charis (Grace)
  • Eucharistia (Gratitude)
  • Charismata (Gifts)
  • Charakter (Character)
  • Chara (Joy)

Grace is God’s great love at work to seek for all,
residents and staff alike that, that each one may stand tall.

Gratitude is thankfulness to God and to each other
for what we share and how we care in serving one another.

Gifts each person has to bring to build a common life,
honor each one’s dignity and lessen human strife.

Character means the imprint of God’s sacred image,
that the heart and mind of God shape our daily scrimmage.

Joy comes when gratitude and grace and character and gifts,
to build relationships of peace that human life uplifts.

Paul Hammer,
17-year resident of the cottages at St. John’s Meadows and St. John’s Board Member
